Himanta Honors Gopinath Bordoloi: Remembering His Legacy on 75th Anniversary
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commemorated the 75th death anniversary of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, highlighting the profound impact of Assam’s first Chief Minister. In a tribute shared on social media platform X, Sarma stated, “On his punyatithi, we remember Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, a towering figure in our state whose unwavering dedication to our land and its people continues to inspire generations.”
Sarma emphasized Bordoloi’s crucial role in safeguarding Assam’s identity, particularly his opposition to the Cabinet Mission’s Grouping Plan, which posed a threat to merge Assam with Bengal before India’s independence. The Chief Minister pointed out that Bordoloi’s firm stance was essential in averting Assam’s potential inclusion in East Pakistan, thus ensuring its position in a newly independent India.
“The efforts of Bordoloi in rejecting the Cabinet Mission’s Grouping Plan were vital for preserving our sovereignty and firmly integrating us into independent India,” Sarma noted.
As the state observes Lok Kalyan Diwas, the Chief Minister urged all citizens to embody the ideals of service and dedication exemplified by Gopinath Bordoloi, reflecting his legacy of commitment to the people of Assam.
