Airtel’s Bold Move: New Deal to Secure Additional Resources for Growth
Nxtra by Airtel has made a significant announcement on Monday, revealing its intention to acquire an additional 125.65 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy from Ampin Energy through a new agreement. This latest deal elevates the total renewable energy capacity sourced through their collaboration to over 200 MW.
In a statement regarding the new partnership, Nxtra expressed that the collaboration with AMPIN Energy Transition involves a power-wheeling agreement that encompasses 125.65 MW of solar-wind hybrid energy linked to plants connected by the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). Prior to this, Nxtra had already entered into two previous agreements to source approximately 75 MW of renewable energy from Ampin.
The added capacity from this agreement is set to be delivered in two stages, facilitated by dedicated solar-wind power projects located in Rajasthan and Karnataka. Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra, emphasized the importance of this undertaking, stating, “This achievement highlights our leadership in utilizing ISTS-backed clean energy to sustainably power our facilities, enhancing reliability and achieving a tangible climate impact.”
Ampin Energy has been a key player in supplying solar power to Nxtra through intra-state, open access initiatives in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. With this new deal, Ampin expands its reach, adding 11 new states and incorporating advanced technologies like large-scale ISTS renewable energy supply, as well as a seamless provision of energy from a single Independent Power Producer (IPP).
Pinaki Bhattacharyya, the Founder, Managing Director, and CEO of AMPIN Energy Transition, noted that this partnership exemplifies a comprehensive mix of inter-state and intra-state renewable energy solutions supported by a national presence. He stated, “Nxtra by Airtel, a frontrunner in the rapidly growing data center space, shares our vision for sustainability, and we are proud to make data centers green through this association.”
