The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet convened on Friday to approve various initiatives aimed at enhancing technical education, public safety, child protection, and administrative efficiency within the state. Chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the cabinet made crucial decisions that will significantly impact the region.
To bolster technical education, the cabinet sanctioned the establishment of 34 teaching and non-teaching positions at the Toru Government Engineering College located in the Papum Pare district. This decision signifies a commitment to improving educational infrastructure and providing better opportunities for students.
In a bid to enhance internal security, the cabinet greenlit the raising of the 6th Indian Reserve Battalion, thereby strengthening the state’s policing capabilities. Currently, Arunachal Pradesh maintains two state armed police battalions and five Indian Reserve battalions. The addition of a new unit is expected to improve public safety, maintain law and order, and decrease the state’s dependence on central armed police forces. Furthermore, this initiative is anticipated to create employment opportunities for local youths.
The cabinet also approved the adoption of model guidelines for support persons under Section 39 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012. These guidelines will be amended to fit state-specific needs, stipulating that one support person will be assigned for every ten cases to assist child victims during pre-trial and trial phases. The revisions outline the qualifications, selection process, and responsibilities of these support personnel.
To ensure a fair and transparent process for allocating government quarters, new guidelines were established for the allotment of general pool government quarters in both the state capital and its districts. This initiative aims to reduce encroachment and prevent the misuse of government housing, fostering accountability among officials.
Additionally, the cabinet authorized the creation of three posts for deputy directors in prosecution, ten posts for assistant directors in prosecution, and 18 clerical staff positions within the directorate of prosecution. It also approved adjustments in the pay scales for the roles of public prosecutor, additional public prosecutor, and assistant public prosecutor to align with government standards. Lastly, the cabinet sanctioned the creation of ten posts under the directorate of civil aviation, further broadening employment opportunities in the state.
