Manipur Unveils Innovative IDP Portal to Enhance Relief for Displaced Persons

Imphal: The Manipur state administration, currently under President’s Rule, has launched a dedicated portal for managing services for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). This initiative aims to enhance service delivery and coordination among relief efforts more effectively.

The newly introduced platform will provide secure digital access to government services, facilitate workflow management, and offer vital information through a centralized and user-friendly interface, according to officials on Monday.

This initiative was discussed during a comprehensive meeting held at the Raj Bhavan conference hall in Imphal, attended by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Secretary Prasant Kumar Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West, and other senior officials who assessed measures being taken for IDPs residing in relief camps.

During the meeting, Chief Secretary Singh provided the Governor with details about the IDP portal’s functions, which will assist in tracking displaced individuals, managing aid distribution, and ensuring access to necessary public services. Officials highlighted that this digital platform is part of a larger effort to promote transparency and efficiency in the post-conflict rehabilitation process.

The state administration reported a decrease in the number of IDPs from 62,000 to 57,000, with many individuals from districts like Churachandpur and Kangpokpi beginning to return home. Relief camps are anticipated to close by December 2025 as more people transition back to their original locations.

However, officials also acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by some displaced families, particularly those from Churachandpur and Moreh, due to persistent security and logistical issues. The government is providing pre-fabricated houses as temporary housing for these families.

Singh mentioned that approximately 8,000 homes were destroyed during the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, which led to over 260 fatalities. The government is offering financial aid of Rs 1.3 lakh per affected family, aimed at supporting the rebuilding of homes and facilitating resettlement efforts.
