Rangam 2025: Ujjaini Mahakali Oracle Unveils Promising Forecast of Abundant Rains for Telangana!
The annual Bonalu festivities kicked off with vibrant rituals at the Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple in Secunderabad on Monday, July 14, 2025, culminating in the highly anticipated Rangam or soothsayer ritual. This traditional ceremony, steeped in devotion and cultural significance, saw Oracle Matangi Swarnalatha deliver striking predictions reflecting both caution and hope as she embodied the voice of Goddess Mahakali.
As the oracle began her predictions, she emphasized the happiness of the goddess over the reverence shown by devotees. However, her message quickly shifted to a call for greater commitment: “I have been blessed with wealth for a long time but every year, you play games with me,” she lamented. This year marked the seventh consecutive warning that the faithful seemed to overlook, highlighting a growing urgency in her tone.
The oracle, viewed as Vishwamatta or Shakti during the trance, expressed concerns about the state of the community, seeking deeper devotion and sacrifice. “Show me blood,” she implored, reminding the attending priest and devotees of the grave responsibilities they had towards their faith. Acknowledging the successful completion of rituals and offerings, she insisted that these actions weren’t sufficient to maintain her favor. “I carried you in my womb, I protected you, but my patience is wearing thin,” she conveyed, a message underscored by emotional intensity.
Among the sobering predictions, the oracle warned of an impending pandemic and risks of wildfires. “In the coming days, there will be a pandemic. You should be careful. Follow the rules. There will also be fire danger. I am warning you now,” she stated, urging the community to heed her advice seriously.
Conversely, the oracle offered a glimmer of hope when responding to the priest’s questions about rainfall and harvests, traditionally a focal point during the Rangam. “Yes, this year the rains will be good. The crops will be good. There will be sweets and festivals,” she assured the crowd before reverting to her earlier tone of urgency, reiterating: “If you do not, I will not stay quiet.”
The ritual closed with the priest expressing a heartfelt prayer, imploring, “Don’t show me blood. Bless me. Next year, everything will be fine.” He conveyed a message of optimism, hoping that with divine blessings, the community would celebrate future festivals in peace.
Following the Rangam, Telangana’s Minister for BC Welfare and Civil Supplies, Ponnam Prabhakar, addressed media regarding the state’s dedication to preserving the Bonalu tradition. He emphasized the importance of the goddess’s prophecies and reassured the public that all prescribed rituals would be overseen by the Endowments Department. “It is a good sign for farmers and for people across the State,” he remarked, reflecting the optimism surrounding the predictions of favorable rains and harvests. The minister concluded by affirming that the state would act responsibly in response to the oracle’s warnings.
As the Bonalu festivities unfold, the community remains attuned to the divine messages and prophecies that shape their cultural and spiritual landscape, balancing reverence with a call to action in the year ahead.
