Scandal Brews: BJP Slams Arvind Kejriwal’s Nobel Prize Claim While AAP Urges Focus on Real Work

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva has dismissed AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s recent claim that he deserves a Nobel Prize for governance as “laughable.” During a press conference on July 9, Sachdeva mocked Kejriwal’s assertion, suggesting that the AAP leader would only qualify for an award if there were categories for “incompetence” and “corruption.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) quickly countered Sachdeva’s remarks, urging the BJP to prioritize effective governance in Delhi rather than engaging in personal attacks. Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj emphasized the need for action rather than rhetoric, stating, “Opposition days are over-now you have to deliver. Delhi is waiting for real work, not distractions or name-calling.”

The exchange of barbs comes after Kejriwal presented a Punjabi edition of his book titled “Kejriwal Model” in Chandigarh. There, he defended his governance strategy, highlighting the challenges faced by his administration from various institutional roadblocks. “Despite being stopped from working, we performed. I should get a Nobel Prize for governance and administration for what we achieved despite the hurdles,” he stated.

In response, Sachdeva pointed to alleged scandals during Kejriwal’s term, including the controversial renovation of the Chief Minister’s residence, dubbed the “sheesh mahal.” He characterized Kejriwal’s pursuit of a Nobel Prize as indicative of a disconnect from the realities faced by the residents of Delhi. “The people of Delhi are stunned to hear about his desire for a Nobel Prize,” Sachdeva remarked.

Kejriwal, who served as Chief Minister from 2015 until September 2024, argued that his government’s success hinged on integrity. “If a government is corrupt, if its ministers are looting, this model will collapse,” he said, asserting that the AAP has demonstrated this principle through its governance in Punjab as well. He criticized previous administrations for claiming an empty treasury, stating that his government managed to enhance schools, hospitals, and provide free electricity by curbing corruption.

Furthermore, Kejriwal accused the current BJP-led government of neglecting essential services since the AAP’s departure from power. In retaliation, Sachdeva reminded the public of various alleged scandals that marred Kejriwal’s administration, including issues related to panic buttons in public transportation, the pension scheme for women, and liquor licensing.

As this political exchange continues, it highlights the ongoing tension between the AAP and BJP in the national capital.
