Outrage in Mumbai: MLA Hostel Caterer’s License Suspended Following Shiv Sena Leader’s Shocking Assault Over ‘Stale’ Food Complaint!
The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has suspended the license of Ajanta Caterers, which operates the canteen at the MLA hostel in Mumbai. This decision follows the circulation of a disturbing video on social media, depicting Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad physically assaulting a canteen employee over claims of stale food being served.
In its suspension order issued Wednesday, the FDA cited violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 as well as the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations of 2011. The infraction was uncovered during an inspection conducted at the Akashvani MLA hostel, which has now led to Ajanta Caterers being ordered to cease all food operations in the premises starting Thursday.
The controversy erupted when footage surfaced showing Buldhana MLA Sanjay Gaikwad confronting a canteen contractor. In the video, Gaikwad is seen slapping and punching the worker after demanding he smell a packet of dal, purportedly served in poor condition. The severity of the incident has drawn widespread condemnation from both government officials and political opposition, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis publicly denouncing the MLA’s actions. He emphasized that such behavior reflects poorly on legislators and highlights potential misuse of power.
Despite the backlash, Gaikwad remains unrepentant. He told reporters, “I will not apologise… I was about to consume poison; others cannot understand this, so I have no regrets for what I did.” His statement has only fueled further discussions regarding accountability and responsibility among public officials.
In response to the incident, FDA officials also collected food samples from the canteen, including paneer, Schezwan chutney, oil, and toor dal. These samples will undergo laboratory testing, with results expected in approximately two weeks.
