Aamir Khan Sets New Record: Forget ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘War 2’!
Despite the anticipation surrounding major film releases like “Coolie,” “War 2,” and “Dhurandhar,” superstar Aamir Khan has etched his name in cinematic history. His recent sports drama, “Sitaare Zameen Par,” has surpassed the impressive 150 crore milestone at the box office, making it the fourth film of the year to do so. This year, only three other films—”Raid 2,” “Housefull 5,” and “Chhaava”—have crossed the 150 crore mark.
Before “Sitaare Zameen Par,” only four films starring Khan had surpassed this threshold: “3 Idiots,” which grossed ₹202.47 crore; “Dhoom 3,” earning ₹271.07 crore; “PK,” with ₹340.8 crore; and the record-breaking “Dangal,” which remains his highest-grossing film at ₹374.43 crore in India.
Looking ahead, the box office landscape is poised for intense competition. On August 14, crowd-pullers “Coolie” and “War 2” will go head-to-head, while December 5 will see another battle between “Dhurandhar” and “The Raja Saab.” The latter is particularly notable as it features Ranveer Singh in an action-packed espionage thriller, which has already generated significant buzz on YouTube.
“Sitaare Zameen Par,” directed by R. S. Prasanna, serves as a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 classic, “Taare Zameen Par.” The narrative revolves around Gulshan, a disgraced basketball coach played by Khan, who is tasked with mentoring a team of neurodivergent individuals as part of his community service. Genelia Deshmukh co-stars, delivering an impactful performance that adds depth to the storyline.
This film’s ensemble cast includes ten debutant actors, each contributing their unique charm to the narrative. Among them is Gopi Krishna Varma, who has previously made headlines as the first Indian lead actor with Down Syndrome in the film “Thirike,” alongside Rishabh Jain, a promising actor and baker. Their performances, supported by Aroush Datta, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar, have been praised for their authenticity and emotional depth.
