In a significant and urgent action, Konyak civil society organizations have issued a strong advisory warning community members against sending domestic workers, especially minors, to other districts or outside Nagaland. This announcement came after a crucial coordination meeting held on Wednesday at the KU Hall in Mon, where the Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Nyupu Sheko Khong (KNSK), and the Konyak Students Union (KSU) adopted four resolutions aimed at safeguarding community welfare, improving governance, and promoting development in the region.
The organizations expressed alarm over the increasing cases of child exploitation, abuse, and human trafficking. They have called on all stakeholders, including Village Councils, women’s groups, student bodies, and church leaders, to stay alert and take preventive measures against such violations. The advisory warned that any agents or individuals who facilitate these actions could face legal repercussions under existing laws. Additionally, they urged the state government to boost awareness campaigns, particularly in rural and vulnerable areas.
The civil society groups also voiced concerns regarding the transfer of government employees without appropriate relievers and the arbitrary assignment of staff to senior officials, which they argue disrupt essential public services in the Mon district. In response, the organizations have resolved to conduct surprise inspections of government offices. Any government employee found absent without valid justification will be reported to the relevant authorities for action in compliance with the Nagaland Government Servants Conduct Rules and other pertinent regulations.
Reiterating that their actions are not aimed at individuals, the civil society emphasized their commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and responsible governance in public service. They also reaffirmed their dedication to monitoring ongoing development activities in the district, urging all implementing departments and agencies to strictly follow approved Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to ensure timely project completion. Any deviation from sanctioned plans or unnecessary delays will lead to appropriate consequences, as warned by the organizations.
Furthermore, the Konyak civil society groups have renewed their commitment to an intensified “War Against Drugs,” citing growing concerns about drug abuse and trafficking. They implored Village Councils, student and women’s organizations, and churches to actively participate in awareness, monitoring, counseling, and rehabilitation efforts. They issued a stern warning to those involved in drug peddling or use, urging them to cease immediately or face legal repercussions, including imprisonment. The organizations also called on law enforcement to enhance vigilance, especially at checkpoints, to thwart the influx of narcotics into Mon district.
The resolutions were formally presented by Konyak Union President K Yamao Konyak and General Secretary Wango Konyak, who reiterated their collective commitment to defending the rights and welfare of the community. They pledged to collaborate closely with the district administration and law enforcement to foster a peaceful, just, and progressive society in Mon.
