Rahul Gandhi Condemns Nitish Government’s Inaction on Patna Murder Crisis

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sharply criticized the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, branding Bihar as the “crime capital of India.” This statement came in light of the recent murder of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna. In a post on X, a social media platform, on Sunday, Rahul Gandhi remarked, “The brazen murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna has once again proven that the BJP and Nitish Kumar together have turned Bihar into India’s crime capital.”

Gandhi highlighted the alarming state of Bihar, alleging that residents live in constant fear of theft, violence, and murder, with such incidents now regarded as the “new normal” under the current regime. He urged his audience, “Brothers and sisters of Bihar, this injustice cannot be tolerated any longer. A government that cannot protect your children cannot take responsibility for your future.”

Furthermore, he framed every crime as “a cry for change,” calling on the people of Bihar to seek a new direction in the upcoming Assembly elections. He emphasized, “Now is the time for a new Bihar, where there is progress, not fear. This time, the vote is not just to change the government but to save Bihar.”

The murder of Gopal Khemka occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Friday near Gandhi Maidan, close to the local police station and the District Magistrate’s residence, raising serious questions about security in areas designated as high-security zones.

In the wake of this incident, opposition figures, including Tejashwi Yadav and Prashant Kishor, have condemned the Nitish government for its failure to uphold law and order in the state. Even members of the ruling NDA, such as Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with LJP (RV) MP Rajesh Verma, acknowledged shortcomings in their response to the situation.

This tragic event has intensified political discourse in Bihar as the 2025 Assembly elections approach, placing issues of law and order at the center of the state’s political landscape.
