Urgent Demand: Five Tribes Committee Pushes for Nagaland’s Reservation Policy Decision
The 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) has strongly urged the Nagaland State Government to take decisive action regarding the reservation issue. In a press release released on Sunday, the committee expressed deep frustration over the “continued inaction” it has observed, highlighting that the State Cabinet had previously announced intentions to establish a Commission to assess the existing Reservation Policy, but no real progress has been made on critical concerns.
The CoRRP demands that the state either abolish the current Reservation Policy or allocate the unreserved quota specifically to the five tribes it represents. These key demands were reportedly communicated during a meeting on June 3, 2025. The committee stated, “There has been no substantive progress or official communication in this regard,” criticizing the government for its silence and delay in addressing these pressing matters.
Additionally, the CoRRP raised concerns about the proposed composition of the review commission, insisting that civil society organizations (CSOs) be excluded. The committee emphasized that such exclusion is crucial for maintaining the neutrality, fairness, and integrity of the commission’s work, thereby preventing any potential conflicts of interest or undue influences.
The CoRRP is calling for urgent and transparent action while remaining open to constructive dialogue. However, the committee has warned that if the issues remain unresolved within a reasonable timeframe, it reserves the right to pursue democratic measures to make its voice heard. The press release was jointly signed by Er Tesinlo Semy, Convenor, and GK Zhimomi, Member Secretary of the committee.
