Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Israel, stating that any attack on Iran would breach the proposed ceasefire. This ceasefire was announced after recent airstrikes targeted a U.S. military base in Qatar. In his statement, Trump emphasized that both Iran and Israel must refrain from hostilities. However, shortly after the announcement, Israel reported that Iran had launched missiles at its cities.
Trump expressed disappointment with both nations, mentioning that while he was dissatisfied with Iran, he was “really unhappy with Israel.” Speaking to the media before departing from a NATO summit in The Hague, he cited Israel’s violation of the ceasefire by activating its weapons. He also asserted that Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been eliminated.
In a direct instruction, Trump urged Israeli leaders not to bomb Iran and to bring their pilots home, saying, “Israel, don’t drop those bombs. If you do, it’s a major violation. Bring your pilots home right now.”
There are questions surrounding the effectiveness of U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. Experts suggest that Tehran may have moved its uranium stockpile, enriched to 60 percent, to secure underground locations ahead of these attacks. This maneuver allows Iran to potentially enrich uranium to 90 percent, sufficient for nuclear weapon production, once hostilities cease.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported that Iran possesses 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent, enough to produce multiple nuclear weapons.
On Tuesday, both Israel and Iran confirmed their acceptance of Trump’s ceasefire proposal, following a limited missile retaliation from Iran against a U.S. military installation. Despite agreeing to the ceasefire, Iran launched a series of missiles at Israel, resulting in at least four fatalities, while Israel conducted pre-dawn airstrikes targeting Iranian sites.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran’s actions are a response to Israeli “aggression.” He noted on social media, “As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around. As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations. However, if the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression by 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterward.”
