TMPK’s Urgent Blockade in Jonai Sparks Outrage Over Mising Youth’s Killing
The Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), the leading student organization of the Mising community, has initiated a protest blockade in Jonai, situated in Assam’s Dhemaji district, to demand justice following the brutal killing of 22-year-old Prabash Doley, a daily wage laborer from the Mising tribe, in Chimpu, Arunachal Pradesh. The protest commenced at 6 AM on Monday from Dekapam village, the victim’s hometown, and represents the first phase of a larger statewide movement. TMPK has called for life imprisonment for the alleged murderer and adequate compensation for Doley’s grieving family.
Redeep Jack Doley, TMPK’s External Affairs Secretary, emphasized the necessity for Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Pema Khandu, to personally intervene and relocate the investigation to Dhemaji district, ensuring a fair and thorough process. “We will be submitting a memorandum to CM Khandu. His ongoing silence, as well as that of civil societies and student organizations in Arunachal, is deeply disappointing,” Redeep stated in an interview, while urging communities on both sides to maintain peace and harmony.
Reports indicate that Prabash Doley, residing in Misamora village, was working at a construction site near a Bharat Petroleum outlet in Chimpu. On the night of June 18, he was reportedly attacked with a sharp weapon by a 26-year-old named Tai John, the proprietor of a nearby car wash. This violent altercation allegedly arose from a dispute over construction noise.
Doley was found critically injured and later pronounced dead; his body was sent for a post-mortem examination at TRIHMS in Naharlagun. The accused, Tai John, has been arrested by police and is currently in custody. TMPK has warned that it will escalate its protests if their demands for justice are not met promptly.
