In a significant anti-drug operation, the Assam Rifles recovered methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs. 10.43 crores on June 19 in the Pukpui area of Lunglei district, Mizoram. Two individuals were apprehended during the operation. The seized narcotics, along with the suspects, have been transferred to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Lunglei for further investigation and legal action.
The arrested suspects, identified as Sapna Chakma and Punyasur Chakma, are believed to be local operatives of the Parbattya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), an organization led by Santu Larma. Sources suggest that the pair has connections to PCJSS leader Bidhayak Chakma, indicating a potentially broader network involved in the drug trade within the region.
On the same day, the Assam Rifles conducted another operation in Mizoram’s Champhai district, seizing 63 cases of illegal ORIS cigarettes valued at Rs. 81 lakh in the Tlangsam area. The contraband and the individual involved have been handed over to the Champhai Police Department for further investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that the illegal cigarettes may also be linked to the PCJSS, suggesting the organization’s possible involvement in multiple illicit activities across the region.
