World’s Most Expensive Fighter Jet Stranded in Kerala 48 Hours Post Emergency Landing
A British F-35B fighter jet made an emergency landing at Trivandrum International Airport in Kerala due to mechanical issues. Over 48 hours have passed since the incident, and the world’s most expensive fighter aircraft remains at the airport. The emergency landing occurred on a Sunday morning, prompting an immediate response from the Indian Air Force (IAF) upon notification of the incident. The jet is part of the British Royal Navy’s aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales. Sources confirm that the aircraft continues to face various mechanical problems, preventing it from returning to the warship. Military experts note that it is rare for a foreign military aircraft to be grounded for more than 48 hours.
The F-35 is recognized as one of the most advanced and costly fighter jets in the world, capable of taking off and landing in tight spaces. Manufactured by American company Lockheed Martin, these jets are primarily owned by the United States, Britain, and NATO forces. The F-35 can operate from aircraft carriers without requiring a catapult system. The Indian Air Force has categorized the incident as a “natural occurrence.” At the time of the emergency landing, joint naval exercises were underway in the Indian Ocean involving Indian and British naval forces.
HMS Prince of Wales was participating in these exercises when the F-35B jet was forced to make an emergency landing due to low fuel levels. Subsequently, adverse weather conditions prevented the warship from retrieving the fighter jet, leading to its continued presence at the airport in Kerala.
