Assam’s ONGC Well Blowout: Urgent Talks with PM Modi Ahead, Says Sarma
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the blast site at Bhatiyapara in Assam’s Sivasagar district on Monday night, June 16, to assess the situation and meet with victims who are currently taking refuge at a relief camp located in Bongaon High School. During his visit, the Chief Minister engaged with affected families, listened to their grievances, and pledged to provide all necessary assistance. He announced compensation for those impacted by the incident and promised full support to the families of the deceased.
Dr. Sarma also initiated an investigation into the non-Assamese firm “SK Petro,” which has been implicated in the blast. He mentioned that he is in contact with senior officials from the corporation and will oversee updates related to the rig explosion closely. In addition, he expressed his readiness to discuss the matter with the Prime Minister if required, assuring that the issue would be escalated to the highest levels of government.
In a directive to the District Commissioner, the Chief Minister requested that examination dates be rescheduled for students affected by the incident, ensuring that they are not unfairly disadvantaged during this challenging time. He also took the opportunity to converse with the victims’ families to address their needs and concerns. Accompanying him during the visit were MLAs Akhil Gogoi and Sushanta Borgohain.
