Scorching Heatwave Hits Coastal Andhra: Unbearable Daytime Temperatures with No Relief in Sight!
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Amaravati has issued a forecast of isolated heavy rainfall for North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) until June 16, 2025. However, as of 11 a.m. on June 14, several locations in the region are experiencing unusually high daytime temperatures. Notably, Yerrampeta in Chintur mandal of Alluri Sitaram Raju district recorded a scorching 39.8 degrees Celsius. Similarly, G. Sigadam in Ganguvarisigadam within Srikakulam district documented a temperature of 37.9 degrees Celsius, while Gurla in Vizianagaram reached 37.68 degrees Celsius.
The heat is felt across Rayalaseema as well, despite some areas receiving very light to light rain recently. Between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday, Annamayya district observed a meager rainfall total of 27 mm. This juxtaposition of high temperatures and sporadic rain raises concerns about the potential impact on local agriculture and daily life.
The IMD attributed the anticipated heavy rainfall to an upper air cyclonic circulation over Southwest Telangana, which extends over North Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema. A trough extending from the west-central Arabian Sea to South Coastal Odisha is expected to play a significant role in this weather pattern. The IMD anticipates that light to moderate rain may affect the whole state, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas over the coming days.
Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates as the IMD continues to monitor these conditions. As climate variations become more frequent, vigilance is key to safety. While heavy rainfall forecasts can bring relief from the heat, they also warrant caution due to the risks of thunderstorms and flash flooding.
As of now, the dynamic patterns of the weather in Andhra Pradesh underscore the importance of preparedness for both heat and unexpected rainfall, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by shifting climatic conditions. Published on June 14, 2025, at 12:20 p.m. IST, this weather update serves as a timely reminder of the need for residents to remain alert and adaptable.
