Exciting Leadership Change: DIG C. Vamsi Krishna Appointed Joint Commissioner (West) in Bengaluru!

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) C. Vamsi Krishna has been appointed as the new Joint Commissioner (West) for Bengaluru, stepping in to fill the role previously held by Vikash Kumar Vikash, who was suspended on June 6 due to a tragic stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives. Notably, this position was formerly held by an officer of Inspector General (IGP) rank, making the current appointment of a DIG a notable downgrading of the role. In contrast, the East division continues to be led by an Additional Commissioner, highlighting a discrepancy in leadership ranks across the city’s divisions.

As Bengaluru’s policing landscape shifts, several other key roles remain vacant following suspensions, including positions such as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Central Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), and Police Inspector for Cubbon Park. These vacancies further underscore the department’s need for stability and continuity in leadership.

In a recent development, the Bengaluru City Police resumed its rowdy parade initiative across all city divisions after a significant hiatus. Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh emphasized that this decision follows recent changes in leadership. “Upon taking charge, I mandated the department to update the rowdy sheeter lists and monitor their activities closely,” Singh stated, signaling a renewed commitment to addressing public safety concerns.

In a proactive move towards ensuring the safety of women and children, Commissioner Singh convened a meeting with all women police personnel in the city who hold ranks above sub-inspector. The focus of the discussion was to formulate effective strategies for enhancing safety measures. Singh highlighted that women and child safety would be a primary concern moving forward, alongside the implementation of new initiatives under the Safe City project. He encouraged the public to engage with the police by visiting the command center to learn more about these safety enhancements.

These focused efforts come at a crucial time for Bengaluru, as community concerns about safety continue to grow following recent incidents. The city police are expected to ramp up their initiatives, aiming to foster a safer environment for all residents.

As changes unfold within the Bengaluru police department, citizens are encouraged to stay informed and engage with their local law enforcement to ensure a collaborative approach to city safety.
