Congress MP Advocates ‘Shoot at Sight’ Order, Criticizes Himanta’s Religion Claims
Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi has voiced his support for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s controversial “Shoot at Sight” directive aimed at those involved in communal violence, emphasizing the necessity for strict action against groups inciting unrest. Addressing recent communal tensions in Assam, Bordoloi highlighted the importance of dealing firmly with such elements and conveyed that the Congress party stands for robust punitive measures in these instances. However, he raised significant concerns about the state’s internal security, questioning how individuals from Bangladesh could allegedly infiltrate and incite violence despite the presence of border forces and police.
“If these claims are true, it reflects a major failure of the Assam government,” Bordoloi stated, asserting that the ongoing incidents mirror the kind of unrest observed in Pahalgam. He placed the onus for addressing these threats squarely on both the Home Minister and the Chief Minister.
In addition, Bordoloi criticized CM Sarma for promoting what he characterized as a divisive “Two Religious Theory” in Assam. He drew a historical parallel to the “Two-Nation Theory” advocated by the RSS and the Muslim League during India’s independence, a theory that was vehemently opposed by the Congress and Mahatma Gandhi.
“Since joining the BJP, the Chief Minister has adopted a political strategy that fosters communal polarization,” Bordoloi remarked, stressing that such policies have empowered certain groups to engage in violence.
