During the booking process, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar card, and travelers must provide this OTP to successfully complete their ticket booking.
There have been no new allegations of irregularities in instant ticket bookings, despite complaints from customers about tickets being sold out quickly online. Many passengers go to the counter for instant ticket bookings only to return empty-handed. Additionally, there are serious allegations against travel agents who have reportedly taken large sums of money for instant tickets. It is claimed that agents reserve multiple instant tickets as soon as bookings open, subsequently selling them at higher prices. Allegations have also emerged against the railway’s associate company, IRCTC, regarding the creation of user IDs and the illegal sale of tickets on the black market. To curb black marketing, linking the Aadhaar card is now mandatory for instant ticket bookings.
Indian Railways has issued a notification regarding changes to the rules for instant ticket bookings. Passengers will be required to use their Aadhaar cards for bookings made through the IRCTC website or app, a rule that will take effect in July. This means that those with an IRCTC account will need to link their Aadhaar number to their user ID. Travelers will be able to book instant tickets only when their Aadhaar is linked to their user ID. This requirement applies not just to online bookings but also to those made at counters.
In response to curbing black marketing, Indian Railways is taking additional important steps. Furthermore, the scope for agents to book instant tickets has been limited under the new regulations. Agents will not be allowed to book instant tickets during the first half-hour after the ticketing window opens.
