The Allahabad High Court granted bail to Dr. Madri Kakoti, an associate professor in the Linguistics Department at Lucknow University, on Monday. Known on social media as Dr. Medusha, Kakoti had previously raised questions regarding a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which led to allegations against her under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges related to assaulting India’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity.
Today, Justice Rajiv Singh provided interim relief to Kakoti. The case against her was filed based on a complaint submitted by Jatin Shukla, a student and member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The complaint alleged that Kakoti had used objectionable and inflammatory language in various posts, mirroring sentiments expressed by known extremist groups, and that her remarks were even propagated by Pakistani media outlets.
