CBI Arrests Two in Shocking Bribery Probe in Assam and Nagaland
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a former Senior Manager of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Dimapur, along with the owner of a private company based in the same city, related to an alleged bribery scandal. The arrests occurred in Guwahati, Assam, and Dimapur, Nagaland.
The CBI reported that a case was filed on June 4, 2025, against both suspects. Allegations suggest that the former Senior Manager of PNB accepted an illegal sum of ₹1 lakh in his bank account from the proprietor of the accused firm. This transaction was reportedly made in return for facilitating an extension of a ₹20 lakh Cash Credit Limit, even though the company was not in a stable financial condition.
On June 6 and 7, the CBI carried out searches across seven locations-five in Dimapur and two in Guwahati-resulting in the recovery of various documents and items deemed incriminating by authorities.
Initial findings from the investigation reveal that the total illicit gain accepted by the bank official amounts to ₹1,69,000. Furthermore, invoices totaling ₹2,06,200 for the purchase of electronic and electrical items were discovered at the office of the accused proprietor. These invoices indicate the purchases were made in the name of the bank official, and several items were also retrieved from the official’s residences in both Dimapur and Guwahati.
The individuals implicated in the case are expected to appear in the respective courts in Dimapur and Guwahati on June 7.
