Transforming Ludhua Tea Estate: Tripura’s Bold Eco-Tourism Vision
Agartala: In an effort to enhance tourism and highlight its natural heritage, the Tripura government is set to transform the Ludhua Tea Estate in South Tripura’s Sabroom sub-division into a comprehensive eco-tourism park, as confirmed by a senior official on Monday. Spanning 22 acres, the Ludhua estate currently produces premium black and green tea. Acknowledging its picturesque landscape and promise for sustainable tourism, the government is preparing to establish the estate as a nature-focused tourist destination.
State Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, along with Tourism Director Prashant Badal Negi and former MLA Sankar Roy, visited the site for a feasibility assessment on Monday. Local officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sabroom and Executive Engineer Sunil Poddar, also participated in the site visit and subsequent review meeting. Director Negi stated, “To give a major push to eco-tourism, the government is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the first phase, estimated at Rs. 32 crore.”
The proposed eco-tourism park will include a variety of attractions, such as a boating facility, cafeteria, ropeway across the tea estate slopes, footbridges, log huts, seating areas, and a dedicated zone for medicinal plants. The design intends to harmonize ecological preservation with visitor-friendly infrastructure.
Negi emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing Tripura’s tourism profile in the next two to three years, assuring that all major tourist hubs, including the Ludhua project, will be equipped with modern amenities. “Once completed, the Ludhua tea estate will become a sought-after destination for eco-conscious travelers,” he added. This development represents a strategic initiative to leverage Tripura’s untapped tourism potential by integrating the state’s lush tea gardens with sustainable tourism practices.
