Mizoram Issues Urgent Advisory Following Detection of New Covid Cases
Aizawl: The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) of Mizoram’s health and family welfare department issued an advisory on Friday following the detection of two new Covid-19 cases in the state on Thursday. The advisory reassured the public, urging them not to panic, as the two individuals infected with the virus are currently receiving treatment at Zoram Medical College and Hospital (ZMC&H) in Falkawn, near Aizawl, and their conditions are not serious.
It was noted that the majority of Covid-19 cases across India are being successfully managed at home. The IDSP and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) are closely monitoring the situation through the national surveillance system. The current variants identified in the country include JN.1, XFG, and LF.7.9, with most individuals experiencing mild symptoms. The advisory encouraged residents to frequently wash their hands, use hand sanitizer, and wear masks if they have a cough.
Since the beginning of the pandemic from March 2020 to October 2024, Mizoram has recorded 734 deaths among 239,637 confirmed infections. Last year, 73 cases of Covid-19 were reported, but no positive cases have been identified since October of the previous year. To date, at least 11 samples have been tested in Mizoram, with two positive cases emerging this year, coinciding with a resurgence of Covid-19 in some other countries and in India.
