Indian Diaspora Celebrates Unity and Heritage: Kanimozhi Leads Inspirational ‘Sindoor Samagam’ Event in Latvia
Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi recently led an all-party delegation to Riga, Latvia, where they participated in a ‘Sindoor Samman’ event organized by the Indian diaspora to welcome Group 6. The event was not only a celebration of Indian culture but also an opportunity for the delegation to engage with expatriates, fostering a sense of unity and support for India’s efforts against terrorism.
During the event, members of the Indian diaspora expressed their strong backing for the Indian government’s anti-terror operations. One participant articulated their belief that such operations are vital for national security. “Anti-terrorism operations are always good and should be done for our security. All the steps taken by the government are right,” they told ANI, reflecting a sentiment of solidarity among Indians living abroad.
Another diaspora member praised Operation Sindoor, recently conducted by the Indian armed forces, describing it as a courageous initiative that has safeguarded Indian citizens. “It was a very brave action from our end… We saved our people. The delegation visiting various countries is great. All Indians are united,” she stated, underscoring the communal spirit among Indians in Latvia.
Echoing this sentiment, another diaspora representative noted the long-standing impact of terrorism on India, expressing support for the government’s assertive stance against it. “Our nation has suffered a lot from terrorism. We are a big and secular nation. It is commendable that the Indian government has taken a firm stand against efforts to divide us,” they affirmed, expressing confidence in India’s leadership.
The visit by MP Kanimozhi came in the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 innocent lives, and she used the platform to emphasize the importance of national unity. “When our Indian tourists were attacked, they hoped to divide us on our beliefs. But the people of Kashmir stood together to protest against Pakistan as Indians. The message is clear: nothing is going to divide us anymore,” she declared, inspiring a sense of collective identity among her audience.
Former Indian Ambassador to the European Union, Manjeev Singh Puri, highlighted the delegation’s discussions with Latvian parliamentarians. He noted that the Latvian officials made it clear that terrorism is unwelcome in their political discourse. Puri remarked on Latvia’s potential election to the UN Security Council, emphasizing the growing global focus on India’s role in combating terrorism and promoting peace.
Puri added that Latvia recognizes India as a country with significant geopolitical relevance, which strengthens the desire to establish closer ties. “All countries want to strengthen and build more relations with India, and that’s a clear sign of interest in our nation,” he said, reinforcing India’s position on the global stage.
The all-party delegation’s outreach in Latvia not only reinforces India’s diplomatic relations but also symbolizes a unified response to terrorism, reflecting the resilience of the Indian diaspora worldwide. As the global fight against terrorism continues, the sentiment of solidarity among Indian communities remains steadfast and unwavering.
