Professor Sujit Ghosh from the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune has been honored with the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Prize by Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional contributions to scientific research and is conferred annually to distinguished scientists and scholars.

Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany, the prize is named after Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel, a noted German astronomer and mathematician who lived from 1784 to 1846. The selection criteria for this award highlight notable scientific achievements that have already made a significant impact in their field, as well as the potential for continued excellence and broader appeal beyond specialized disciplines.

Along with monetary recognition, the award facilitates collaborative research projects at German institutions. As part of this recognition, Ghosh will collaborate with researchers at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in Germany.

Ghosh’s research group focuses on developing and studying advanced porous materials, including Metal-organic Frameworks (MOFs), Metal-organic Polyhedra (MOPs), Porous Organic Polymers (POPs), Hydrogen-bonded Organic Frameworks (HOFs), and nano-composites. These materials have promising applications in the chemical industry, energy sector, and environmental sustainability.
