Aizawl: Mizoram has launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), a nationwide initiative designed to enhance agricultural resilience and empower farmers ahead of the Kharif season. The campaign commenced today and will continue until June 12, 2025. The launch took place at the Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Selesih, Aizawl, drawing the participation of various dignitaries and government officials.

C. Lalsawivunga, the Chief Guest and Minister of Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Veterinary, highlighted the campaign’s role in helping farmers address the challenges posed by climate change. He stressed the necessity for widespread information dissemination regarding climate-resilient crop varieties, soil and water conservation techniques, and strategies for managing both excess and deficient rainfall, all presented in farmer-friendly language.

P.C. Vanlalruata, the Guest of Honour and Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, Irrigation, Water Resources, and Co-operation, underscored the value of scientific research in developing practical on-ground solutions for farmers. He urged for increased awareness about government schemes, soil health evaluations, suitable crop choices, and judicious fertilizer application.

Ramdinliani, IAS, Chairperson and Special Secretary for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, called on scientists to engage fully with the campaign. She described VKSA as an important step toward recognizing farmers as crucial providers of nutrition while stabilizing their income. She also noted that the campaign offers scientists a vital opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Indian agriculture.

At the district level, the campaign was launched by Deputy Commissioners and senior officials. A total of 1,403 farmers and 239 officials, including scientists, participated in Mizoram’s launch event. Each district created outreach teams, with each team designated to visit three villages, officially launched by respective Chief Guests.

In the Hnahthial and Lunglei districts, the VKSA campaign was initiated at the Hnahthial DC Office Complex, where three teams were sent out. On the first day, these teams collectively reached nine of the 99 targeted villages in the two districts.

The teams conducted awareness sessions on various government agricultural schemes, providing essential information to farmers. Additionally, discussions addressed local challenges in crop production and animal husbandry.

Following the launch, officials from agriculture and allied departments led expert sessions, followed by interactions between farmers and scientists, fostering open dialogue and sharing of knowledge.
