Major Drug Bust: Rs 15 Crore Brown Sugar Seized, Two Arrested!
A collaborative operation by the Manipur Police and central security forces led to the arrest of two suspected smugglers and the seizure of narcotics worth approximately Rs 15 crore. The operation, executed on Tuesday, uncovered 220 soap cases containing around 2.4 kg of suspected brown sugar, believed to be sourced from Myanmar.
Responding to intelligence from multiple sources, a joint team, including the Narcotic Affairs and Border Police, the Senapati District Police, and the Assam Rifles, set up a strategic trap in the Senapati district, close to the Nagaland border. During a surprise raid at the Biisho Bridge, under Maram Police Station’s jurisdiction along National Highway 102, the team intercepted a Bolero vehicle heading north towards Nagaland. The vehicle was driven by Mayarngam Khokyar, 45, from Kalhang village in Ukhrul district, accompanied by 34-year-old Nima Sherpa of Sadim Naga village in Senapati district.
Upon inspection, authorities found the contraband cleverly concealed within the vehicle’s skinned body panels. Alongside the suspected drugs, two mobile phones and several identity documents were seized from the individuals. The arrested suspects, along with the confiscated drugs and the vehicle, were handed over to Maram Police Station for further legal proceedings in accordance with applicable laws.
