Stellantis, the multinational automotive conglomerate known for iconic brands such as Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler, has appointed Antonio Filosa as its new Chief Executive Officer. Filosa, who has a 25-year tenure with the company, will officially assume the CEO role on June 23, 2024.
Filosa’s appointment was announced during the company’s press conference at the Automobility LA 2024 event in Los Angeles. The company plans to hold a special shareholder meeting shortly to officially elect him to the board as an executive director. Filosa expressed his excitement about the new role, stating, “It is my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic Company,” and emphasized the pivotal time for the industry as he steps into this leadership position.
Before his new role, Filosa led the Jeep brand and served as Chief Operating Officer for North America, a position he took on in October 2024. He was also appointed Chief Quality Officer early this year, highlighting his extensive experience in various facets of the organization. Filosa’s deep understanding of Stellantis and its workforce, whom he considers the company’s core strength, positions him well for steering the company through challenges ahead.
Stellantis recently reported a significant 14% drop in year-on-year net revenues in the first quarter and withdrew its full-year financial guidance. This downturn is largely attributed to the uncertainty surrounding U.S. trade policies, particularly with former President Donald Trump’s fluctuating stances. The automotive industry, heavily reliant on global supply chains, is bracing for the implications of trade tariffs, which could further impact production and sales.
John Elkann, who has been leading an interim executive committee since Tavares’ departure, will continue in his role as executive chairman. The company’s shares, listed in Milan, have experienced a nearly 27% decline this year, reflecting investor concerns about the company’s performance and growth prospects.
