Nagaland’s Good Samaritan Scheme: Essential Guidelines You Must Know

The Transport Commissioner of Nagaland, Elias T Lotha, has announced the launch of the Rah-Veer Scheme, aimed at recognizing and rewarding Good Samaritans who assist road accident victims. This initiative highlights the importance of immediate action during emergencies, allowing victims to receive timely help and reach a hospital or trauma care center within the critical Golden Hour.

The scheme encourages citizens to take brave steps in supporting those affected by road accidents, with the potential to save lives in urgent situations. Under the guidelines, individuals who provide prompt assistance by transporting serious accident victims to a hospital within the Golden Hour are eligible for financial rewards.

The scheme offers a financial incentive of Rs. 25,000 per accident. A single Good Samaritan who saves one or more victims in the same incident will receive a total of Rs. 25,000. If several Good Samaritans assist one victim, the reward will be shared equally among them. In cases where multiple Good Samaritans save multiple victims, each victim will earn Rs. 25,000, but the amount received by any individual is capped at Rs. 25,000. Along with the monetary award, recipients will also be honored with a Certificate of Appreciation.

The scheme will be effective until March 31, 2026, at the end of the 15th Financial Cycle. Comprehensive guidelines, including details on eligibility and the selection process, can be found on the official website.

Importantly, the initiative also safeguards Good Samaritans under Section 134A of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019. According to this regulation, individuals providing assistance will not face legal actions without their consent. Should there be any breaches of these legal protections, affected individuals may approach a Grievance Redressal Committee, which will be established under the authority of the Deputy Commissioner, Collector, or District Magistrate.
