Modi’s Strong Stance Amid Turkey Boycott Sparks Controversy and Concern

Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, calls for a boycott of Turkey have intensified, given Turkey’s support for Pakistan during recent conflicts. During his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted a growing trend among Indian families to vacation domestically under the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative following Operation Sindoor. He emphasized that a renewed sense of patriotism is sweeping the nation, illustrated by a poignant story about a parent who now exclusively purchases ‘Made in India’ toys for their children, believing this will foster patriotism from a young age.

As a result of this sentiment, many families have decided to spend their upcoming holidays in India rather than abroad. Additionally, there has been a noticeable trend of young couples choosing to hold their weddings within the country. Indian citizens are increasingly avoiding travel to Turkey and Azerbaijan, both of which have provided support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Notably, Pakistan utilized Turkish drones extensively during its military operations against India.

According to PTI, Mohak Nahta, founder and CEO of the visa processing company Atlis, stated that Indian travelers have opted not to visit Turkey and Azerbaijan, leading to a staggering 60 percent cancellation rate of visa applications in just 36 hours. The CEO also mentioned that his company has ceased all marketing activities related to Turkey and Azerbaijan, aligning with the national sentiment to show solidarity with India.
