Veteran actor Paresh Rawal’s exit from the highly anticipated film “Hera Pheri 3″ has sparked a significant controversy, with his legal team, Anand & Naik, finally addressing the matter. The latest developments follow Rawal’s earlier promise to provide a legal clarification, which he confirmed on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He stated, “My lawyer, Ameet Naik, has sent an appropriate response regarding my rightful termination and exit. Once they read my response, all issues will be laid to rest.”
According to a source cited by The Times of India, producer Firoz Nadiadwala, who holds the rights to the original “Hera Pheri” films from 2000 and 2006, has sent legal notices to key figures involved in the project, including Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan, Suniel Shetty, and Rawal himself. The notices prohibit them from engaging in any promotions or activities related to the “Hera Pheri” franchise, warning that any further actions could be viewed as a willful breach of contract.
Further complicating the situation, it was reported that during the filming of “Bhoot Bangla” in March, Rawal was asked by Kumar to sign a document for “Hera Pheri 3” with the understanding that the complete agreement would follow later. However, Rawal expressed hesitance due to the absence of a script or additional details. Kumar reportedly reassured him by saying, “Don’t worry, trust me. You’ll see it later in the longform agreement.” Trusting their rapport, Rawal signed the term sheet.
In April, Rawal was requested to film a promotional video for the new installment. He again inquired about the script and other production arrangements, but was told that filming needed to occur in time for the IPL final, with specific details to be finalized later. The promotional shoot did take place on the “Bhoot Bangla” set, though Rawal had suggested postponing it until the following year. To date, he has not received a long-term contract, script, or any formal production details.
Additionally, a source close to Rawal emphasized his deep commitment to the character of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Babu Bhaiya), indicating that he sought clarity on terms before proceeding further.
Earlier statements from Akshay Kumar’s legal team suggested that Rawal’s departure had resulted in major disruptions and financial losses for the cast, crew, travel, and trailer shoots. In response, Rawal’s representatives clarified that the absence of a completed story, screenplay, or a detailed contract was critical to his engagement. They indicated that due to the lack of these essential components and the legal notice from Nadiadwala concerning the film’s production, Rawal decided to terminate his involvement, returning the money with interest tied to their initial agreement.
