A tragic plane crash in a San Diego neighborhood claimed the lives of six individuals, including beloved music executive Dave Shapiro, co-founder of the renowned Sound Talent Group. The private aircraft encountered serious issues while approaching the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport during thick fog, exacerbated by non-functional runway lights and a compromised weather alert system. Huke echoed this sentiment, having saved diligently to attend concerts and festivals, demonstrating her commitment to the industry. Both were noted for their skills in planning tours.
Also among the deceased was 36-year-old Celina Marie Rose Kenyon, confirmed by the coroner’s office, who was not affiliated with Sound Talent Group. Additionally, Daniel Williams, former drummer for the Ohio-based metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada, was onboard. He was celebrated for captivating audiences with his drumming, a testament to the band’s success during his tenure.
The Cessna 550 Citation was on a route from New Jersey, having made a refueling stop in Kansas, when it crashed about two miles from the airport. Moments before the tragedy, the pilot communicated with air traffic control, acknowledging the adverse weather conditions and contemplating a diversion to another airport. Despite knowing about the faulty weather alert system, he decided to proceed, saying, “Doesn’t sound great, but we’ll give it a go.” The crash occurred after the plane struck power lines, enveloped in fog so dense that visibility was severely limited.
