SKM Prepares for PM Modi’s Exciting Visit to Sikkim Coordination Meet
GANGTOK: In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forthcoming visit to Sikkim on May 29, the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party held a high-level coordination meeting in the capital on Tuesday. SKM working president Kunga Nima Lepcha chaired the gathering.
The meeting included key figures such as SKM chief coordinator Sonam Lama, secretary general Arun Upreti, ministers, MLAs, advisors, vice presidents, coordinators, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Gangtok, zilla adhakshyas, upa-adhakshyas, panchayat members, executive body members, and representatives from various frontal organizations.
Speaking to the media, SKM secretary general Arun Upreti stated that the meeting was conducted under the guidance of SKM president and Chief Minister PS Golay, aiming for full party support during the Prime Minister’s visit, which coincides with the Golden Jubilee celebration of Sikkim’s statehood.
“The state government has completed most of the preparations, but our party president wants SKM to provide all possible support to ensure our most popular Prime Minister’s visit is a grand success,” Upreti emphasized.
He described the upcoming event as “historic,” highlighting the collaboration of “two of the nation’s most popular leaders-PM Narendra Modi and CM PS Golay.”
Upreti noted that this visit reflects the Chief Minister’s cordial relationship with the Prime Minister, developed over the past six years. He also mentioned that extensive security arrangements have been made for the event and urged all attendees of the public gathering at Paljor Stadium to be seated by 8 AM sharp. He appealed to citizens to maintain decorum and don traditional attire, showcasing Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage.
“We aim to demonstrate Sikkim’s unity and pride in our traditions. Let us make this occasion not only successful but also memorable,” he added.
Additionally, Upreti expressed gratitude to the Government of India and the Prime Minister for the release of a special ₹50 commemorative coin commemorating Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee statehood. He acknowledged the Chief Minister for his ongoing efforts to foster harmonious relations with the Centre.
Earlier in the day, the meeting was addressed by senior party leaders, including chief coordinator Sonam Lama, MLA Kala Rai (Upper Burtuk), SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling, general secretary (headquarters) Pawan Gurung, and SKM Nari Shakti vice president Tshering Palden Bhutia.
