Mizoram’s Thrilling Journey in Men’s U-20 NFC Quarter-Finals
Mizoram secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Swami Vivekananda Men’s U20 National Football Championship after a stunning 11-1 victory over Tripura at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Stadium on May 19. Alongside this match, Jharkhand triumphed over Himachal Pradesh, further shaping the group standings, as reported by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
With this win, Mizoram tops Group D with an unassailable nine points from three matches. Maharashtra and Tripura trail behind them with six points each. Even if these teams catch up, Mizoram’s prior victories against both put them ahead in the head-to-head record.
Mizoram dominated the second half, scoring nine goals and ending the match with a definitive 11-1 scoreline. They led 2-1 at half-time, with Mesak Lalrinngheta and PC Pazawna leading the charge, each netting four goals. Michael Lalbiaksanga contributed two goals, while Ngurthanmawia added one. Sukha Dayal Jamatia provided the lone goal for Tripura.
Earlier, in the other group match, Jharkhand defeated Himachal Pradesh 2-1, holding a 1-0 lead at half-time. Chandra Mohan Soy opened the scoring for Jharkhand early in the match, but Aryan Thakur equalized in the second half before Jharkhand clinched the victory. The dynamics of Group D are now set as the championship progresses.
