GUWAHATI: A tragic incident unfolded on May 19 in Lachit Nagar, Guwahati, where a 24-year-old pregnant woman named Karishma Das was found dead in her rented apartment. Authorities discovered her hanging upon arrival.
According to a senior officer from the Paltan Bazar Police Station, a call was received around 3:30 PM regarding the incident. The victim’s family accused her husband, Mintu Kalita, of murder. Karishma’s parents reported ongoing conflicts between the couple, suggesting that Mintu may have killed her and failed to notify them. The police have since taken Mintu into custody, while the victim’s body has been sent to the GMCH for a post-mortem examination. Further details are pending as forensic investigations continue.
Family members informed the police that Mintu was frequently under the influence of substances and had a history of domestic disputes with Karishma. On the night of the tragic occurrence, he reportedly returned home intoxicated.
