Manipur Police Launches Cyber Lab to Combat Social Media Threats

Imphal: Manipur Police has inaugurated a new Cyber Lab in the Imphal East District, aimed at enhancing its capabilities to investigate cyber crimes, particularly those targeting the Meitei community on social media. The Cyber Lab was officially launched on Sunday by L. Kailun, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), during a ceremony attended by several senior police officers.

Authorities have stated that Cyber Crime Police Stations across Manipur will now manage cases involving recent online threats made against the Meiteis, allegedly by individuals or groups from the Kuki community. These threats, primarily disseminated through social media platforms, are reported to be aimed at dissuading Meiteis from participating in the upcoming Shirui Festival in Ukhrul.

A report from the control room released on Monday indicated that some anonymous individuals, claiming to represent the Kuki community, circulated the threatening messages. Initial investigations suggest that these claimed organisations may not actually exist. In light of this, various credible Kuki organisations have openly condemned these threats, distancing themselves from any groups involved.

Manipur Police has registered a criminal case regarding these online threats at the Cyber Crime Police Station and is committed to taking necessary legal actions to identify and apprehend those responsible. Officials have emphasized their serious approach towards such threats and their intent to investigate them promptly.

The police department has reassured the public that it has implemented comprehensive security precautions to facilitate safe travel and participation in the Shirui Festival. Senior officers are currently overseeing security operations, and law enforcement continues to assess the situation regularly.

Authorities are encouraging the public to remain calm and cooperative as they work diligently to uphold peace and ensure safety during the festival.
