Thirteen undocumented Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by Peelamedu police in Coimbatore over the weekend. The males, aged between 18 and 45, were detained following inspections at accommodations provided by various industries for laborers from Northern India. This marks a significant development, as this is the first instance of such a large group from Bangladesh being apprehended in the region. Previously, only a handful of Bangladeshi individuals had been discovered in isolated instances, making this situation notable for local authorities.

During the investigation, police learned that these individuals had initially requested time from their employers to submit the necessary documentation upon joining. The arrested men include Bablu (26), Sameer (18), Sehak (26), Alameen (24), Jit Tone (22), Sorif (29), Boni (30), Russel (42), Mohammed Altaf (45), Rakib (22), Dida (24), Arafat (22), and Sayyon (32). Following their arrest, the police have remanded them in judicial custody. According to police sources, they are expected to be relocated to refugee camps dedicated to foreign nationals.

In a separate incident, three men from Thrissur, Kerala, were arrested in connection with a fraudulent online job scheme that resulted in a local resident losing ₹6.8 lakh. The accused—Anandhu Krishna (20), T.S. Vishnu (28), and P.S. Sujith (26)—allegedly contacted the complainant via Telegram, posing as representatives of a real estate firm and promising lucrative earnings in exchange for promotional efforts.

The victim, lured by the prospect of bonuses and commissions, transferred funds in several installments to different bank accounts. The scam unraveled when he found himself unable to withdraw any of the money. Law enforcement has charged the trio under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, including Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of BNS and Section 66D of the IT Act.

As authorities grapple with these rising incidents of undocumented migration and cybercrime, such cases highlight the need for heightened vigilance and more robust measures to protect vulnerable individuals and communities. The Coimbatore police continue to monitor the situation closely, reinforcing their commitment to ensuring public safety and addressing illegal activities in the area.

These developments underscore ongoing challenges in managing immigration and cyber fraud in India, offering a glimpse into a complex issue that affects many. As investigations proceed, further updates are anticipated on both the Bangladeshi nationals’ situation and the online scam, emphasizing the need for community awareness and cooperation with law enforcement.
