Tripura Harnesses AI for a Transparent and Efficient Governance Revolution
The Tripura government has initiated the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into its administrative framework, a decision highlighted during a workshop focused on AI for good governance, which took place in Agartala. The Sensitization cum Capacity Building Workshop aimed at driving transparency, efficiency, and impact, was inaugurated by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha. This event was organized by the Department of Information Technology in partnership with the National e-Governance Division under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and it attracted significant participation from key officials, including IT Secretary Kiran Gitte and Director Jeya Ragul Geshan B.
In his address, Chief Secretary Sinha emphasized the transformative power of AI in enhancing governance. He stated, “Artificial Intelligence can significantly improve the accountability of administrative institutions, enhance transparency, and elevate the overall quality of public service delivery.” He pointed out ongoing digital initiatives in the state, such as e-Office, e-Cabinet, and the Beneficiary Management System (BMS). These initiatives, he remarked, have already streamlined administrative processes and fostered greater efficiency and accountability. “These steps align with our broader vision of ‘Digital Tripura’ and contribute to the national objective of a ‘Digital India,’” he added.
Sinha also stressed the importance of adopting advanced technologies to modernize public administration further. “Digital tools have become essential enablers of progress, bridging gaps and propelling us forward. The coordinated efforts of officials across departments have been crucial in adopting these innovations,” he noted. Echoing these sentiments, Kiran Gitte, the IT Secretary, highlighted that AI is not merely a futuristic concept but an immediate necessity. “AI has emerged as a powerful tool for data-driven decision-making, faster service delivery, and improved operational efficiency. We are working to establish an AI-based innovation ecosystem to serve citizens better,” he explained.
Gitte further informed attendees that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has reviewed Tripura’s digital advancements. “Once we are fully equipped, the state will gain access to licensed AI tools. However, using these tools effectively requires a robust big data infrastructure. We have started building integrated databases, and as our data pool expands, AI will facilitate seamless cross-platform integration, boosting efficiency across departments,” he detailed.
The workshop’s primary goal was to educate government officials about the potential of AI in governance and provide them with insights into its practical applications in public service delivery. This initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing Tripura’s administrative capabilities and aligns with the nationwide push for a more digital and efficient governance model.
