How India Stunned Pakistan: A Historic Rivalry Unfolds
During the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, the Adampur airbase in Punjab emerged as a significant focal point. Located just 100 kilometers from the Pakistan border, this base is the second largest in the Indian Air Force. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the airbase following false claims from Pakistan that it had been destroyed during the latest conflict. This visit also serves as a reminder of a crucial historical event from the 1965 war, when India thwarted Pakistani efforts to land at Adampur.
Back in 1965, Pakistan attempted to seize the airbase, deploying commandos to make a landing. However, thanks to the courage and resilience of local defenders, they were compelled to retreat. According to reports from Aajtak, out of the 42 commandos involved in this operation, 12 were killed, and only one managed to escape.
In a notable development amid ongoing tensions, Modi’s visit to Adampur on Tuesday morning included interactions with air force personnel actively engaged in recent military actions. He expressed deep gratitude towards the armed forces on X, emphasizing the nation’s appreciation for their sacrifices and dedication. Modi remarked, “Earlier this morning, I went to AFS Adampur and met our brave air warriors and soldiers. It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomize courage, determination, and fearlessness. India is eternally grateful to our armed forces for everything they do for our nation.”
