Union Minister Nitin Gadkari represented India at the BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Brasília, Brazil, on Wednesday, reaffirming India’s dedication to developing a sustainable and resilient transport infrastructure. In a post shared on X, Gadkari stated, “Represented India at the BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meet in Brasília — driving the vision for a sustainable, resilient, and future-ready transport ecosystem.” Emphasizing the progress made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he highlighted key initiatives such as PM GatiShakti, the National Logistics Policy, Bharatmala, and Sagarmala. These programs illustrate India’s commitment to creating an integrated transport ecosystem that fosters inclusive growth and enhances regional connectivity.
In his post, Gadkari expressed his honor in sharing India’s vision for sustainable and multimodal transport infrastructure with global counterparts. The discussions at the meeting underscored transformative initiatives led by Prime Minister Modi, which are pivotal for the future of India’s transport framework.
BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, originated in July 2006 during a meeting at the G8 Outreach Summit in St. Petersburg. Following the formalization of BRIC in September 2006, the group held its first summit in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in June 2009. In 2010, South Africa’s admission transformed BRIC into BRICS.
This coalition represents significant emerging economies, accounting for 41% of the global population, 24% of the world’s GDP, and over 16% of international trade. BRICS countries have consistently driven global economic growth and collaborated on critical issues involving political, economic, and cultural exchanges.
