Centre Boosts Security for External Affairs Minister Jaishankar with New Bullet-Proof Vehicles: A Vital Step for Safety and Confidence!

The security detail of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has been enhanced with the addition of two bullet-resistant vehicles following a thorough review of his Z category armed protection. This update comes, as reported by news agency PTI on Wednesday, in light of recent tensions between India and Pakistan. The intensified security measures coincide with India’s diplomatic actions against Islamabad following the tragic Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people.

As Jaishankar, 70, continues to spearhead the Ministry of External Affairs’ initiatives, he has actively engaged with global leaders and foreign ministers regarding Operation Sindoor. This operation was launched in response to the aforementioned attack, aiming to address terror infrastructure in both Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources familiar with the situation, a recent evaluation by central intelligence agencies prompted the recommendation for the inclusion of two bullet-resistant vehicles in Jaishankar’s Z category convoy. These enhancements were deemed necessary to meet the heightened security requirements for the minister. The review indicated an upgraded threat perception, leading to the Home Ministry’s decision to elevate Jaishankar’s protection level from the Y category to the more stringent Z category earlier this year.

The Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) VIP security wing is tasked with providing armed protection to Jaishankar and oversees a wide range of VIPs, including prominent political figures such as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and members of the Gandhi family.

The recent escalations between India and Pakistan have drawn significant attention, particularly following the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7. This military operation targeted terrorist launch pads and infrastructure, resulting in the reported deaths of over 100 militants affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. In retaliation, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling and attempts at drone attacks against Indian territories, which subsequently led India to target key military infrastructure across eleven airbases in Pakistan.

The situation has prompted calls for a cessation of hostilities, with an understanding announced on May 10 to halt further military actions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Such developments highlight the fragile balance of security in the region and underline the importance of robust protection for high-ranking officials like Jaishankar.

As geopolitical tensions continue to unfold, the enhanced security measures reflect not only the immediate threats faced by the minister but also the broader context of national security in South Asia. The evolving dynamics necessitate that Indian officials remain vigilant and adequately protected as they navigate complex diplomatic challenges.

In summary, the fortified security measures for External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar underscore the increasing risks posed by ongoing military and political hostilities while revealing the government’s commitment to safeguarding its leaders in these tumultuous times.
