In a significant operation against cross-border narcotics trafficking, Nilambazar police have confiscated heroin worth approximately Rs 3 crore and arrested two women suspected of participating in a drug smuggling ring operating between Assam and Tripura. Acting on specific intelligence, law enforcement intercepted a suspicious consignment, leading to the detention of Manju Debnath and her sister-in-law Pushpa Debnath, both from Agartala, the capital of Tripura. Authorities believe that the pair is heavily linked to a well-organized network for drug distribution throughout the Northeast.
Investigations indicated that the heroin was cleverly hidden within 55 soap cases and was being transported in a bag on a train, intended for delivery in Tripura. However, prompt action taken by the Sribhumi police ensured that the contraband was seized before it could reach its final destination. The crackdown underscores ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region and highlights the urgent need for continued vigilance against organized narcotics networks.
