Pakistan Urges Global Support Following India’s Attacks, Affirms PM Modi
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grave concerns over the recent Pahalgam attack, stating it has reversed years of progress in both economic stability and diplomatic relations. The incident has severely impacted tourism in the region, a sector that had only recently begun to recover, and has allowed Pakistan to once again raise the Kashmir issue on the international stage. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Mr. Abdullah remarked, “We are in a place where we didn’t expect to be. We are in a place where there has been bloodshed, suffering, turmoil, and upheaval. Everything has changed. And yet, in some ways, nothing has.”
He elaborated on how the anticipated economic boom during this season has turned into a stark reality of emptiness across the Valley. “At this time of the year, we should have been flooded with tourists, enjoying a booming economy. Children should have been in school, and our airports should have been operating with 50 to 60 flights daily,” he noted. Instead, he lamented the closure of schools and airports, resulting in a deserted region.
Mr. Abdullah also pointed out that, paradoxically, while conditions have deteriorated, Pakistan has managed to internationalize the Jammu and Kashmir issue once again. He highlighted the role of the United States, which he believes is keen to position itself as a moderator in the ongoing conflict. “The US seems to be interested in stepping into the role of an interlocutor,” he added.
The Chief Minister’s comments shed light on the precarious situation in Jammu and Kashmir, revealing the deep-seated challenges that continue to affect the region amid ongoing tensions.
