Air India Cancels Flights Today Due to Rising India-Pakistan Tensions
Air India announced on Tuesday the cancellation of two-way flight operations to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot. This decision follows a similar move by IndiGo Airlines. Air India stated in a message shared on X that, “In view of the latest developments and keeping your safety in mind, flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot are cancelled for Tuesday, 13th May.” The airline reassured passengers that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
Earlier, Air India had expressed its commitment to reinstating flights to Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot. They emphasized the ongoing efforts to restore flight operations across these airports. “Following a notification from aviation authorities about reopening airports, Air India is working towards progressively commencing flights to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot. We appreciate your understanding during this time as we work to bring operations back to normal. Please stay tuned for further updates,” the airline added.
On Monday, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced the reopening of 32 airports in northern and western India for civil flight operations, just days after their closure was extended due to rising tensions in the India-Pakistan conflict. In recent developments, red streaks were observed in the sky and explosions were reported as India’s air defense intercepted Pakistani drones near Samba. Army sources indicated that a small number of drones had entered the Samba sector and were being engaged without causing alarm.
