Punjab Authorities Warn Residents to Stay Away from Falling Drones: Safety First!
After multiple reports of drone sightings and explosions in the border districts of Punjab on Friday night, authorities have issued a warning urging the public not to touch any falling objects, regardless of their size. This advisory comes in response to several incidents where villagers, driven by curiosity, gathered around these objects resembling drones or missiles. Officials emphasized that residents should promptly inform the police or call the district helpline instead of approaching these items, as they may be explosive.
Drone remnants have been found in various border districts, including Ferozepur and Amritsar, as well as central areas like Jalandhar, Bathinda, and Hoshiarpur. This surge in incidents coincides with continued operations by Pakistan targeting northern Indian border states after the Indian military’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 6.
On Saturday, India reported that the Pakistani military attempted air intrusions at more than 26 locations from Srinagar to Nalia, all of which were successfully neutralized by the Indian military. In Pathankot, a border district frequently shaken by loud explosions, Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal noted concerning trends of residents not just touching suspicious objects but also attempting to take them home or physically inspect them. “We strongly advise against touching any such objects, as they pose a significant risk of explosion. Legal actions will be pursued against anyone who disobeys this warning,” Uppal stated.
He urged citizens to maintain a safe distance from these items, acknowledging the natural curiosity they invoke but underscoring the need for public safety. “It is crucial that people refrain from handling these items and allow the police or army to manage the situation. Residents should report incidents to the authorities instead,” Uppal remarked.
In a video from Jalandhar, individuals were shown examining the internal components of a suspected missile. Jalandhar’s Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal reiterated that if a drone crashes nearby, individuals must stay clear and immediately notify the nearest police station, police control room at 112, or the district administration’s control room at 0181-2224417.
The Punjab Police has designated the helpline number 112 for statewide reporting of such incidents. A senior Punjab Police officer commented on the public’s propensity to document these occurrences, stating, “While we cannot prevent people from taking photos or videos, it is vital that they do not touch these objects, as they could explode at any moment. The most important instruction is to stay at a safe distance and inform the police.”
Tragically, at least three members of a family sustained serious injuries when a drone-like object crashed onto their home in Khai Feme ke village, Ferozepur district, late Friday night. Authorities are currently investigating at least four large craters discovered in fields across various districts, raising further concerns over the situation.
