The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued a strong advisory to the public, urging them to refrain from engaging with or sharing content from these deceptive profiles.
The account posing as Wing Commander Vyomika Singh operates under the handle @WingVyomikStan and has amassed over 28,000 followers. Its bio misleadingly claims, “Proudly serving in the skies, defending the nation with Air Force. Duty, Honor.” However, official sources have confirmed that this account is not authentic and does not belong to the Wing Commander.
Similarly, the fake account impersonating Colonel Sofiya Qureshi has surfaced, presenting her as an active user on the platform and inaccurately describing her as “the first woman to lead the multi-national military Exercise Force 18.” This account has gained attention amid increased public interest following India’s recent Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7.
To combat this spread of misinformation, the PIB Fact Check team took to X, stating, “There is NO official X handle of Wg. Cdr. Vyomika Singh & Col. Sofiya Qureshi. Both of these handles are fake. Stay vigilant. Rely only on official sources for authentic information.”
The rise of these impersonations comes as both officers have become more prominent figures during press briefings pertaining to Operation Sindoor. Their visibility has made them more susceptible to being targeted on social media, particularly during times of heightened national security concerns.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi has made history as the first woman officer to lead an Indian Army contingent in the multinational military exercise Force 18. A postgraduate in biochemistry, she was commissioned through the Officers Training Academy and hails from a distinguished military family, with her grandfather having served in the Indian Army.
Meanwhile, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is celebrated for her skills in flying Cheetah and Chetak helicopters in challenging environments, demonstrating her expertise amid India’s most difficult terrains. Her prominent role during defense briefings highlights the increasing involvement of women in combat and leadership roles throughout India’s military.
