
Health Director Champions Improved Care: Infrastructure and Service Quality Assessments at Khowai District Hospital
Agartala, 9th May 2025: On Friday, Dr. Tapan Majumdar, the State Health Director, undertook a comprehensive field assessment at Khowai District Hospital to evaluate its infrastructure and pinpoint areas needing enhancement in healthcare service delivery. Accompanied by District Magistrate Rajat Pant and Joint Director of Health Dr. Saroj Debbarma, Dr. Majumdar examined various hospital departments, including the emergency ward, gynecology, operation theater, oxygen plant, kitchen, dialysis unit, and pediatric ICU. The team also evaluated the proposed location for a new orthopedic operating theatre and explored the feasibility of implementing an emergency ICU bed adjacent to the emergency department.
Joining them were District Chief Health Officer Dr. Padmaram Jamatia and Medical Superintendent Dr. Sharbindu Reang, alongside other senior officials. The delegation also visited the outpatient department, medicine store, and blood bank, engaging with doctors, nurses, and staff to gain insight into the challenges faced regarding infrastructure and daily operations. Dr. Majumdar underscored the necessity of maintaining clean and well-kept hospital environments, personally inquiring about sanitation standards throughout the inspection.
In a conversation with the media, Dr. Majumdar explained that the aim of the visit was to obtain a direct understanding of the infrastructural deficiencies and service gaps within the facility. He declared, “The Health Department is committed to resolving these issues promptly to enhance healthcare quality for the people,” emphasizing the department’s goal of providing better services through improved infrastructure.
