Tragic Accident: Biker from Assam Injured in Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya
A motorcycle accident on National Highway 3 near Umkaliar in Ri Bhoi District left a 24-year-old rider injured on Friday afternoon around 3 PM. Dambeswar Das, a resident of Khatgaon in Marigaon District, Assam, was riding his Yamaha FZ motorcycle, registered as AS-21M-8348, when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses indicated that Das was traveling solo from Guwahati to Shillong when he attempted to overtake a Tata Sumo vehicle. Unfortunately, he lost control of his bike, subsequently crashing into the road divider, which resulted in significant injuries.
In the aftermath of the crash, the motorcycle was towed away by a recovery vehicle and is currently being held at Umsning Police Station for safekeeping. Emergency responders acted quickly, transporting Das to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Umsning for immediate medical attention. The Medical Health Officer (MHO) on duty assessed his condition and issued a medico-legal certificate (MLC), referring him to Shillong for more comprehensive medical care.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by motorcyclists on busy highways, especially when attempting risky maneuvers such as overtaking. As road safety remains a critical concern, authorities continue to advise all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent similar accidents.
