Agartala, April 30, 2025 – During a recent review meeting at Pragya Bhavan, Janjati Kalyan Minister Bikash Debbarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing safety and creating a supportive atmosphere for students living in hostels. “Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of students staying in hostels. We are working relentlessly to achieve this,” Debbarma stated.
Highlighting the importance of individual accountability, he urged hostel managers to approach their responsibilities seriously and strive to enhance the quality of available facilities. To bolster these efforts, Debbarma called on sub-district and district-level welfare officers to conduct routine inspections of hostels. “We must ensure that all services are provided properly in the hostels. The welfare of the students is paramount, and we must ensure they receive the best facilities,” he emphasized.
The meeting also included insights from Brijesh Pandey, Secretary of the Janjati Kalyan Department. Subhasish Das, the department’s Director, reinforced a dual focus on the physical and mental well-being of hostel residents. “Along with improving infrastructure and cleanliness, we are paying equal attention to their mental health,” Das remarked, highlighting the holistic approach the government is taking toward student welfare.
Key initiatives discussed during the session included the implementation of biometric attendance systems to enhance security, the introduction of smart classrooms, and the establishment of e-libraries. Moreover, efforts to promote clean and green hostels were outlined, alongside provisions for free textbooks and scholarships to further aid students.
